The time of monsters is upon us once again, as the kaiju wranglers of the TOKU television station is prepping to deliver another massive bounty to our doorsteps this fine February. Starting and ending with the giant hero adventures of the long-running Ultraman franchise, with the standalone tokusatsu film Outer Man in-between. Three different incarnations of Tsuburaya Productions’ famed Ultra Series are launching their official American TV schedules, and we’ve lost count of how many that makes now. The recent list of titles to premiere in the US, like the silvery protagonists of this ongoing franchise, just keeps growing.
First up, we have Ultraman Gaia. This series originally aired in 1998 as the third in the 90s Heisei Era trilogy, though taking place in a new continuity separate from its two predecessors. Of course, that never kept a good toku warrior down. The show’s heroes Gaia and Agul went on to make many appearances in subsequent shows and movies based on the Ultra name.
Next comes the 2015 action comedy Outer Man. As previously noted, this title is packed with familiar faces from the tokusatsu subgenre, including many lead heroes from the Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and Super Sentai franchises respectively, creating a uniquely exciting experience for ardent fans.
Finally, there’s Ultraman Ginga S, the 2014 follow-up to Ultraman Ginga, also premiering on TOKU, readying us for the dynamic action of the favored sequel, where Ultraman Victory is introduced, cementing the places of both heroes in the annals of recent Ultra history.
