Kamen Rider tops the Japanese box office again, with this final phase of the Heisei Era putting a cap on the current chapter of their long-running superhero franchise. Kamen Rider Heisei Generations FINAL: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders came in at #1 on the charts last week, surpassing the success of last year’s annual winter crossover event, proving the lone masked heroes (when brought together so as not to be quite so lone anymore) still have what it takes to capture an audience.
As previously mentioned, the film gathers the title heroes from several past incarnations of the long and storied Rider saga, returning a number of lead stars (and multiple supporting actors) to our screens for one last hurrah (for now). Among them were Fukushi Sato as Gentaro aka high school student-turned-teacher Kamen Rider Fourze, Nishime Shun as Takeru aka dead-turned-living spiritualist Kamen Rider Ghost, Inukai Atsuhiro as Sento aka genius amnesiac Kamen Rider Build, Iijima Hiroki as Emu aka doctor gamer Kamen Rider Ex-Aid, Sanno Gaku as Kouta aka dancing fruit god Kamen Rider Gaim, Watanabe Shu as Eiji aka wandering coin-flipper Kamen Rider OOO, and Miura Ryosuke as Eiji’s antiheroic buddy Ankh.
This group bands together to face the Heisei gang’s ultimate crossover bad guy, who haunts their steps from beyond the shadows, gathering up the scraps of their battle gear for their own nefarious ends: the dark organization known as Foundation X.
Opening in 330 theaters nationwide, the film earned over 3-million US dollars, outpacing its predecessor and ensuring that there will be many more world-saving adventures in the coming years, as we push into a new era for the franchise.
Kamen Rider Heisei Generations FINAL: Build & Ex-Aid with Legend Riders is in Japanese theaters now.
