Entertainment Weekly recently unveiled our first look at the new Power Rangers suits as seen in the 2017 Power Rangers film.
Unlike the original MMPR suits, these suits will be translucent extraterrestrial armor that crystallizes around their bodies. Even if that’s the case, these suits feature some elements from the iconic MMPR suits. The film’s director Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) comments about the new suits, “The show was about kids coming of age, about metamorphosis. These suits needed to feel like they were catalyzed by these kids and their energy, their spirit.”
More on the suits, the film’s production designer Andrew Menzies (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) also commented, “It’s tricky finding a new language for a superhero costume. Ours is an alien costume that grows on them, that’s not man-made. You can’t win everyone over, but we are trying to appeal to a more mature audience and gain new fans.” As for the actors about the new suits, Becky G, who plays Trini aka the Yellow Ranger comments, “I’m gonna wear it for Halloween for, like, five years.”
Power Rangers is set for a March 24, 2017 release.
