A sequel to last year’s modest blockbuster success story, Pacific Rim, has been in development for a while now. It wasn’t going to happen right away since earning only a little over half its budget back, but I suppose grossing that same number four times over globally was pretty helpful.
But most importantly, director Guillermo Del Toro wanted to do it, and so did Legendary Pictures CEO Thomas Tull. And following up with earlier reports of the director drafting a sequel with writer Zak Penn, a new video announcement is available online for the targeted theatrical release date of April 7, 2017 for Pacific Rim 2, preceded by an animated series set in the film’s universe. The director also offered hopes of several principle actors returning for their roles, telling Buzzfeed, “The characters I love will return,… “Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”.
Hopefully Hellboy 3 will get the same attention in the not too distant future. But until then…empty the clip, G!

wasn’t expecting this not one bit. but does this mean some of the monsters must have escaped before the explosion?

The effects were decent in the first movie, the acting was average at best. The plot was shallow and well played in hundreds of movies already, the squeal will need a twist.
Maybe in the end (where humans always triumph) we find a need for the “worm holes” and end up with an alliance with others “beings” to protect and honor the other worlds…setting up a trilogy with yet more epic battles. The bots get replaced or dramatically altered.
Our physical being is not a great footprint for a weapon.

Raliegh’s brother was taken by those aliens and you find out the jaeger tech came from there technology… His brother comes back in a kaiju/jaeger hybrid but has been brainwashed and is now under the others control setting up a sibling rivalry for the ages
