Super Dimensional Fortress Macross is coming up on it’s 32nd anniversary and recently during a rerun of it’s latest incarnation Macross Frontier in Kanto broadcasting area a brief seen at the end of the final episode teased at the return of the series.
Macross came to the US in the first part of the Robotech Triology. The series in the US was unlike any other at the time with complex storylines, over arcing themes, and character deaths were among few things that captivated it’s young audience during each of it’s airings.
Over the years Macross itself has had multiple sequels and movies all containing the themes of Music being both a weapon and an instrument of Salvation, Love Triangles, and of course large transforming robots. A fun fact is Macross actually has small ties to Kamen Rider that stems from it’s latest series Macross Frontier. One of Frontier’s main characters Sheryl Nome was voiced by singing sensation May’n who did music for 2012’s Rider series Kamen Rider Fourze with series made band, “Astronauts” most notably the ending theme “Giant Step”.
