This is a new weekly feature we’ll be doing every week for Kamen Rider Wizard, weighing out the pros and cons of each episode. Check out last weeks review of episode one.
Warning to all, spoilers be lying out ahead…
Con: Aww, look at the FooDroids Plamonsters…
Pro: That’s what you get for being a dick, Haruto.
Pro: This intro is very well paced, good shots and a good song that fits the style of the show, but…
Con: … it doesn’t look like Rinko has held a gun before. I like this character, girls have a long standing history of getting shafted in this Kamen Rider, either being pretty much useless to plot progression, killed or a villain. She’s also a detective, a character type that has been missing from Heisei Rider shows for the better part of a decade, but the actress isn’t quite selling her.
Pro: The police department are aware of Wizard and going by the tone of the Agents voice, viewing him as a threat? Nice bit of world building with an threat to Haruto, and Rinko getting irritated that keeping the Phantoms a secret makes it harder to protect people is correct.
Pro: These.Suit.Designs. So fantastic. Courtesy of Hiroshi Maruyama, who previously worked on Ultraman Tiga.
Pro: Everything this guy does, I think of the Gai (Gokai Silver). His reactions to whatever was happening in that scene could have made it’s own show. Don’t let me down, Shunpei. Why have the kids gotta hate on magic for? They must have been like the rest of mudbloods, scorned because we never got accepted into Hogwarts.
Pro: Flies, Omnislash and the ability to use any right handed ring with a left? That could have some great combos if they’re inventive enough with powers.
Pro: “I wanna be a wizard too!” Oh come on, we all thought it too. Too bad that’s not how this genre works, you’re stuck being a boring human like the rest of us.
Pro: It still amazes me that there’s an openly gay character/actor in Kamen Rider. There were some nearly almost gay portrays like the Hoppers from Kabuto, until that sort of fizzled out. This is a big step for a lot of people, even if you disagree with choosing such a flamboyant character. I can’t help but feel there’s going to be a lot of pressure and responsibility on Kaba-chan to do this right.
Con: Koyomi really can’t act.
Pro: More back story! With a hooded white magician wearing the same belt as Wizard. I’d like to think he was going to be a secondary/third Rider, but Bandai would have no new Driver to sell.
Con: “Here, take this woman. Don’t forget to feed her. May have problem saying words.”
Pro: I want to read that book to my child.
Pro: Oh, maybe not? They could pull another Kagami from Kabuto, or this could be a ruse and people who can become Gates have limited magical abilities. There hasn’t been a slapstick secondary Rider since… Kagami?
Pro: “With or without magic, I’ll still fight“. Attagirl!
Pro Motorcycle battle, this show doesn’t make you forget the Rider in the title!
Another great episode and everything is staying on track right now. The second episode did fantastic in ratings and it does shows. Roll on next week!

Prediction : Shunpei’s magical ability is granted by the Phantom. When he’s familiar enough with his ability, the Phantom takes it back, thus leaving Shunpei in despair.
No mention of Wizard’s fighting style? I think it’s fantastic.

Yeah I don’t really know what he meant by that. If he was trying to say that very few shows in the Heisei era had detectives in them, then it was worded very poorly. Especially since 90% of W cast were detectives, either police or private.

This is in reference to what I said in the last episode, about component cops who weren’t the Riders. So really, Jinno & Makura from Double don’t count.
