Thank you for showing some love to Ultraman. I really feel this is an underappreciated franchise and people give up on it before seeing its real potential. I have been a huge Ultra fan ever since Ultraman Tiga (I’ve seen the original Ultraman and even Ultra Q). The themes and concepts really drew me in, especially the theme of death and resurrection. I saw Revenge of Belial and loved the characters and action. For a movie not directed by Koichi Sakamoto, it was pretty good. At first, I wasn’t a big fan of Ultraman Zero. For one thing, I thought he had too much going on, the coloring seemed all over the place and I didn’t like that Charlie Brown stripe. But I guess he grew on me. As for Ultraman Saga, I heard that it’s mostly used to celebrate the anniversary of Ultraman Dyna and Ultraman Cosmos. But the fact that they’re including Ultraman Zero shows that Tsuburaya understands the potential Zero has and wants that untapped potential to leak on to its other heroes. I thought Jean Bot looked a little like Gallantmon/Dukemon from Digimon Tamers.
I too am hoping for another Ultraman TV series, the formula works, has worked in the past. And with the advancements in technology that Japan is going through, the special effects (the original reason Eiji Tsuburaya created Ultraman was to show off his special effects, in fact the original title of Ultraman was “Ultraman: A Special Effects Fantasy Series”) would guaranteed to bring in new fans at the same time reminding old ones that Japan has three good action franchises.
As I said, I’m a big fan of the Ultraman. Next time you need some info on Ultraman, don’t be afraid to look me up.
