Coming out of nowhere like a hefty sucker-puch, Comixology’s line of translated Shotaro Ishinomori manga just gained a new addition: Kamen Rider! Find out the details after the jump!
After the appearance of Kamen Rider SPIRITS on the Vetrical Inc Facebook polls awhile back, fans have been clamoring for a legal release of some manner of Kamen Rider manga in the states. The closest we’ve had to date is Tokyopop’s release of the SKULL MAN manga sequel by Ishinomori and BLAZING TRANSFER STUDENT’S Kazuhiko Shimamoto–and that’s only because of a plot twist. However, it appears that our prayers have been answered via Comixology, a digital comics website that has also been uploading translated Shotaro Ishinomori works! As of this writing, you can now purchase the origina SKULL MAN one-shot, KIKAIDER, and CYBORG 009. As of today, though, you can now buy the first two volumes of KAMEN RIDER for five bucks each.
Spanning four volumes, Shotaro Ishinomori’s classic Kamen Rider manga was a drastic retelling of the TV series, rife with action and amazing visuals. It also served as the basis for a subplot in KAMEN RIDER THE FIRST and one of the main villains, Big Machine, was brought back recently (in name only) for KAMEN RIDER X SUPER SENTAI: SUPER HERO WARS. It’s one of my personal favorites and I’m sure you guys will get a kick out of it too. And who knows? If this does well sales-wise, whose to say this won’t open the door for more releases?
