Lupe Fiasco, a Chicago Rapper who is known for his unique style and socially conscious nature, seems to be no stranger to interesting inspirations. His upcoming project “Tetsuo and Youth” (oddly enough not named after the Akira character, though he admits drawing inspiration from him) has created waves in the Hip Hop community long before release, but how does his latest track, uploaded today to his Soundcloud, relate to Toku fans? Hit the jump to check out “Mazinger!”
Note: The following track contains strong language. Listener discretion is advised.
Lupe’s latest track samples from sound clips and the theme from Mazinger Z, the popular Mecha anime from the 70s. No stranger to the nerdier side of life, Lupe stated in a 2013 Complex interview, “[Childish Gambino], I watch more anime than you.”
Website Otakus and Geeks did a short write up on nerdier references in his Lyrics, and there is even a theory prevelant among some of his fans that he draws his name “Lupe” from “Lupin the Third,” the famous anime revolving around the thief, Arsene Lupin III.
If you like this track, be sure to check out “Tetsuo & Youth” when it drops January 20.
