The director of Cowboy Bebop: Shinichiro Watanabe, teams up with animation studio BONES to bring us  Space Dandy; an outer space comedy driven Anime that according to him, should not be taken seriously. The project was announced during a Q&A at this year’s Otakon.
Space Dandy follows the exploits of alien hunter and titular hero Dandy nicknamed “The Deadliest Man in Space”. He searches the cosmos for new alien races together with his companions: a cat-like alien named Meow and an R2D2-esque robot called QT.
The rest of Space Dandy’s cast members consists of: Director Shingo Natsume whom previously worked on Guren Lagann and Full Metal Alchemist. Scriptwriters Dai Sato, Keiko Nobumoto, and Kimiko Ueno, character designer Yoshiyuki Ito, artist Thomas Romain and singer Yasuyuki Okamura.
Space Dandy will be the first time Watanabe will be working on a comedy driven series. The anime is set to premiere January 2014.
