Back to Vanguard boys and girls and this time we look at toku enemies in the game. Don’t be surprised to see a few Category Kings and Ultra monsters trying to thwart our heroes. So click the link and see who’s snuck in and joined the fight!
Â
In my last article I talked about the obvious toku involvement in the card game by displaying the heroes that the game represents or sometimes copies….Twin Blader…Just call him Gavan. But not only does the game use toku heroes they also use toku villains. Though this is kept to two clans mostly, The Mega Colony which is filled with Kamen Rider villains and Dimension Police has Ultraman villains.
According to game lore the Dimension Police was forced to team with their foes the Galactic Space Beasts to fight a greater evil that threatens them both. Because of this I expect to see a Zero/Beliel team up movie now. The Mega Colony is a mafia of bugs and arthropods who in exchange for their services take people out of the fight.
The first we look at Dimension Police and their other ride chain. A ride chain in vanguard is a series of cards representing the evolution, re-equiping, or mutation of unit. Or if you want to look at it in simpler terms, think digivolving from Digimon with your first unit starting at rookie state and going up to Mega.
The ride chain is known as Zeal, which based of one of Ultraman’s greatest and strongest monsters Zetton. The whole thing about zeal is when he comes into play he makes your opponent’s Vanguard weaker and easier to attack. And since he has an evolution chain he becomes more and more destructive with each incarnation that hits the field. Settling at Super Galactic Beast Zeal which not only depowers the main enemy unit with his own he uses the other creatures in your control to further depower the enemy. Truly a horrible thing to sit across from and living up to his homage of Zetton as the strongest Ultra Beast.
While it’s generally Mega Colony handles the Kamen Rider Villains one does sneak into the D. Police. That would be Beast Army Admiral, Gogott who is Colonel Zol from Kamen Rider V3. His power is rather simple. Whenever he is used in an attack you can choose bounce him back to your hand. So much like Zol, he flees to return to battle another day.
Next up is Strike Beast, Gunlock who is supposed to be based not only on Ultra Monster Magular, but possibly on famed Godzilla monster Anguirus based off his design. He takes advantage of foes by boosting his own strength while the opponent has been weakened by another of our monsters effects. So much like Magular he can only pick on foes weaker than himself as he’s taken out rather easily by stronger ones.
Time-Space Ninja, Tsukikage is the last of the Galactic Beasts that have Ultraman Ties in the game. He’s supposed to be based of Alien Baltan. Though they share little in common other than the theme of Space ninja there are some similarities. Â Tsukikage gets stronger when he attacks and I guess that also connects him to Baltan in another way as the Baltan got stronger with each encounter to the point where one actually killed an Ultra.
Now onto Mega Colony which as stated earlier are Mafia bugs and arthropods. A good chunk of these bugs are taken from the Kamen Rider villain stock most notably Worms from Kabuto which are the more generic of the lot along with some of the more notorious from other series or simply minions. Keeping with the mafia theme you pay them their cost and they keep people you don’t want to fight out of the fight.
First we’ll look at some of the grunts that are every day soldiers and underlings for the Colony. We have the Battler B squad. Right away we can draw comparison to either standard Zect troopers with they’re ant themed design and heavy bulbous gun on their right hand. You can also compare them to Den-O’s Leo imagin Leo Soldiers sharing the gold scheme. After all they were just gold color Zect Trooper costumes.
Probably the most infamous female Rider villain of the Showa is also represented. Bee Woman known for the death of Tackle is in the game as well. Here she’s known as Karma Queen. The moment she comes into the play you can pay her cost and knock an enemy right out of the fight.
Oddly enough despite not being a villain Tackle herself is shows up in the game as well. Here she is called Lady Bomb; she shares the exact same power as Karma Queen. This is probably what would have happened to Tackle would she had not been rescued by Stronger.
The two Category Kings of the Spades and Diamonds from Kamen Rider Blade show up in the Mega Colony. Coincidentally these two are also the rulers of the Colony itself.
The Giraffa undead is known as Evil Armor General Giraffa and much like his name sake the Evil General uses his own men to further his agenda. You can kill off two of your own men to kill two of their men once he hits. He is also the end result of Mega colony’s ride chain. Starting off as a simple Pupa before becoming the monster that he is.
Second is Martial Arts Mutant, Master Beetle. He is Caucasus undead and true king of the colony. He shares both design and style of King. As he messes with your opponent causing them trouble just by attacking. He merely has to attack not even hitting and your opponent loses two men on their side until their next turn. Â And while not a Kamen Rider Villain he can also be compared to Zx-Tole from the Hyper Zoanoid Team five from the manga and anime series Bio Boosted Armor Guyver.
We end this little article with what is tradition for all Kamen Rider Villains, The Spider Monster. And the colony does not disappoint giving us Hell Spider. Â Hell spider gets stronger when all your opponents creatures are tapped out. On top of that he can web them up when he comes into play to ensure his strength boost is guaranteed.
And that’s toku villains in Cardfight!! Vanguard. There’s quite a bit of them and as more sets come out I’m sure more heroes and villains will find their way into the game. When they do you’ll be sure to see them here.
