The yearly double feature for the Kamen Rider and Super Sentai movies has premiered this year! Click the jump for a rundown of the top ten movies out this week in Japan.
Kamen Rider Fourze: Everyone! It’s Space Time! and Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters: Protect the Tokyo Enetower opened this weekend and came out on top at the box office. Long thought to have been inspired by the design of Skyzel from the Uchuu Tetsujin Kyodain TV series, this movie or less confirms that. Everyone! It’s Space Time! Features villains and guest heroes based on designs from Daitetsujin 17 and Uchuu Tetsujin Kyodain – pretty awesome looking suits too. The Koichi Sakamoto (Ultra Galaxy Legends, Kamen Rider W Forever) directed movie also features human guest stars in the form of Ayumi Kinoshita, who people might know as Deka Yellow in Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger and Mikie Hara, known for her lead role in Cutie Honey THE LIVE.
Protect the Tokyo Enetower also sported a guest star in the form of Nozomu Tsuji, voicing Ene-tan, a movie-exclusive giant sized Buddy Roid. Last year’s double feature saw a huge guest star in the form of Ken Matsudaira reprising his legendary role as Tokugawa Yoshimune in Kamen Rider OOO Wonderful: The Shogun and the 21 Core Medals. While probably not as huge of a draw, Nozomu Tsuji is a former member of the girl band Morning Musume. So, if the movies saw an extra bit of an audience, it might be thanks to her role. Last year’s double feature opened at third place on the box office charts but went on to become the most successful non team-up feature.

Awesome. Hopefully the movies are cool enough to deserve this. After the worry about the ratings, its nice to know the movies are still number 1. 🙂
