The nightmare continues…On the big screen. Or it would have if the series big screen adaptation didn’t run into some problems. But we have news as the movie seems to have picked up some steam again with the announcement of a rather famous director. So continue if you dare, because this nightmare is about to get real.
Back before the anime of Attack On Titan was even announced it was first announced that the smash hit manga would see a live action movie released in the fall of 2013. The fall release date was the perfect time as the anime which was announced shortly after the film would be wrapping up and the movie would be striking while the iron is hot. However, director at the time Tetsuya Nakashima (Confessions and Kamikaze Girls) left the movie siting creative disputes on scripting writing along with other various parts of the the film. His departure in December of last year left the project frozen and it wasn’t until April of this year that the project resurfaced announcing that the film had been indeed pushed back into 2014.
As of today, it’s been officially announced that Shinji Higuchi will be directing the film now. Higuchi was a key member in Gainax having help write End of Evangelion and has very deep roots in Tokusatsu. He was the special effects director on the 90’s Gamera triology and Godzilla: Giant All Out Monster Attack, as well as working on storyboards for both Casshern The Movie and Kill La Kill. He is also currently help work on the Evangelion Rebuild Project doing storyboards.
The film currently has a 2015 time frame now with Yusuke Watanabe (Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods) and Tomohiro Machiyama will be scripting the movie.

With the director having deep roots in tokusatsu, I would like to imagine that the Titans will be half-suit acting and half CGI.
