Shout! Factory continues to crush it with their ongoing home video releases of the Super Sentai franchise as they prepare to roll out Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoV a mere three months after their impending release for its predecessor, Seijuu Sentai Gingaman. The 1999 series was eventually adapted for American consumption by Saban as Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue, and like all of Shout’s titles in the Super Sentai line, this marks one of the first times the original story will be told unedited for its official US release.

GoGoV chronicled the exploits of the Tatsumi Family as they waged war against a horde of monsters bent upon destroying everything their rescue organization fought to protect.

A bit of trivia, which may constitute a mild spoiler for the uninitiated, concerns how the team was categorized in part by its five-person unit (both the “Go” and the “V” in their name representing the number), a roster that remained unchanged across the entirety of the series, in contrast to nearly every Super Sentai series that surrounded it, each one adding a sixth hero to their ranks before the story concluded.

The US adaptation saw an unprecedented change in their policy, adding an extra Ranger of their own to suit the tradition. The Titanium Ranger became the first heavily recurring Ranger not originated from its source material.

Alternatively, GoGoV would briefly showcase a new hero in their summer movie, Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoFive: Sudden Shock! A New Warrior. In which, the rescue squad encountered the armored Demon Hunter Jeek, bent upon revenge against a mutual enemy at all cost. The character did not see screentime in either the GoGoV series or its American counterpart, and I’m still crying puddles over it to this day.

As previously stated, Seijuu Sentai Gingaman releases January 30, 2018. And as Amazon reports, its follow-up Kyuukyuu Sentai GoGoV drops April 24, 2018 and is available now for pre-order to the tune of $59.97.
