The battle to save a war-torn Earth from a wave of rampaging monsters continues in Pacific Rim: Uprising, and we have three new posters to prove it. John Boyega makes his debut as the new lead hero, piloting the giant Jaeger robot known as Gipsy Avenger. He’ll need all the swag he can muster if he hopes to live up to the likes of Idris Elba, his father in this universe and the man who once vowed to “cancel the apocalypse”, in Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 original Pacific Rim. Let’s take a look at what the sequel has in store.

Charlie Hunnam, who lead the original Pacific Rim is nowhere to be seen here. Sadly, his part in this saga may be over, but in his place is the potential bonus of John Boyega. First introduced to many as dejected Storm Trooper Finn from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Boyega’s star has been on the rise in recent years. I, of course, came to know him from his earlier work, where he defended the quirky denizens of his neighborhood from spooky alien creatures in Attack the Block, a film seen by far too few. Suffice it to say, after these films, he’ll be quite well-versed in dealing with otherworldly beasts.
Joining him is fellow newcomer Scott Eastwood of Fast and Furious infamy, whose own real-life parentage in Clint Eastwood rivals Boyega’s in the film. Which Kaiju-stomping hero will out-badass the other remains to be seen.
Until then, here’s the teaser released a few months back at Comic-Con, as we await the first full-blown trailer.
