TOEI Japan Channel….. CANCELLED.

The previously reported TOEI Japan Channel has been cancelled. Where once we had out first hint that we might see tokusatsu officially released in our western shores, now it looks like our fandom goes back to business as usual and will have to wait for some other service to bring our shows into mainstream geekdom. Here are the details courtesy of purplevalkyrie:

    • don't put any hope into crunchyroll don't give them money either they can't provide anything even if they popularize something enough to motivate sentai filmworks/the anime network to purchase and legitimize and give us legal streaming or on demand TV instead of having to go to a website and sit through 2 commercial breaks with 2 sometimes as many as 3 commercials per break and they put 3 commercial breaks during the show so that's 10 ads for one show and that's assuming 2 ads per break sometimes when the ad has the 5 second press to skip button because the ad itself is an incredibly long boring and has nothing to do with anything, crunchyroll does not acknowledge this and starts the commercial break over forcing you to sit through 2 more commercials so you refresh the page. soon as it loads, 2 ads right away before it can even continue playing where you left off. and god help you if you refreshed it during a commercial, 2 commercials for refreshing, then 2 more for the commercial break so you got a little bit of anime viewing now but all of those ads are now making your browser run ridiculously slow. don't give crunchyroll support in fact boycott them

      • But that is only for free user's. Plus you can watch it on your iPhone,iPad, or iPod touch were there is only one or two commercials every commercial break. Usually there is just one.

      • Do you watch K-dramas? Toei can put it on Viki and Dramafever (you know those 2 sites), you put it on there K-drama fans will watch them and Sentai fans can end up watching K-dramas.

    • Well, not paying any attention to than rambling block of text already replied to you (seriously, man, I know it's the internet and everything, but please, at least a little grammar; that stuff's hard to read like that >.<), I wouldn't expect anything from Bandai America, at least not directly. They've shuttered their licensing arm for entertainment properties, Bandai Entertainment, and are no longer procuring licenses; instead, they are focused on being a "middle-man," so to speak, helping to broker licenses with other companies. While this sounds great, I'm not sure on their progress so far, as I've yet to see anything about them actually doing anything since early 2012. So, even if they are actually doing this "middle-man" service, it'd still be another company altogether more than likely that would actually be responsible for the release...

  • So was Toei Channel only being done through MyGlobeTV? Because this isn't saying that Toei has cancelled, but that Globecast is cancelling their MyGlobeTV service. It specifically states that in the text, right before listing the two channels. So, if anything, it's one less outlet they could go through, but not completely saying it's a dead project...

  • Yes just heard about this on Japanator:

    http://www.japanator.com/say-bye-bye-toei-japan-channel-to-shut-down-in-december-30639.phtml

The only way to bring Toei shows to the US, Toei will have to use Dramafever, Viki, and Crunchyroll to have their show stream. trust me, using those sites would help Super Sentai, how many of you Sentai fans are also K-drama/Hallyu fans. If K-dramas can get popular, then so can Super Sentai and Kamen Rider, need to put them on those streaming sites like Dramafever and Viki.
