Located at the Prism Hall in Tokyo Dome City, the Kamen Rider x Super Sentai W Hero Matsuri(festival) is being held during the month of August. An exhibition of suits on display, games to play and toys to see.
Held every year, the festivals are open to the public, attracting young kids for activities from Rider racing games, a Shocker recruitment drive and regular live shows with the entrants can meet and shake hands with the heroes after. Adults can join in too to any of the events, but find themselves more attracted to suited statues of their heroes from their childhood and taking photos wit them(see my photo above).
For 1000 yen, you could sit and get a photo on Kamen Rider Wizard’s Winger motorcycle, which I now later regret not getting. In the corner, project showed the openings from oldest to latest of Super Sentai, with the occasional dance sessions for kids to Kyoryuger’s ending song. It’s hard not to join in with the infectious beat, even when the person next to you is six years old.
The live stage show, which naturally had a ban on photography equipment, involved Wizard and Beast fighting a monster trying to make the audience fall into despair. The stunts were all done live and impressively managed to keep with the level of choreography as the television show. With the exception of one or two, all the effects were projected, some by laser, which was of low budget, but creative nonetheless. When all hope is lost, Kamen Rider’s 1, 2, V3, Amazon, Double, OOO, Fourze & Meteor show up to lend a hand. Cue coming on group by group to defeat different grunts. Finally, the villain reveals himself to be Kamen Rider Sorcerer, from the movie, and cue the auidence to help generate magic to let Wizard transform into his OP form, Infinity. Thus, then saving the day.
If you want to see this all in action, check out the video coverage of the event.
