Hey there, Justice Seekers! DJKlaxx back with more for your Power Rangers Action Card Game players. No, it’s not so much a preview today as it is looking ahead to the new cards that we already know. Rest assured, as soon as I have new cards to share, I will. Until then, we’re gonna look at some of the highlights that the official Facebook page have shared, including a new Card Type, and some dual-type Cards that should be very interesting for Villain players.
Our first card is something semi-familiar. It’s a new Yellow Megaforce Ranger!
[HAND] You may discard this card to reduce the damage you are taking by 1.
This ability is unprecedented in this game. In a format dominated by Mystic Force and Super Samurai, reducing your damage comes in very handy. She’s splashable in any deck as she has no Team requirement to activate. Make sure that you don’t discard this UNTIL you take the damage, as it’s timing calls for activating WHILE taking damage.
Next, let’s look at a card that not only supports the previous, but implies the direction the new Megaforce will be taking.
[PLAYED] You may move a [HAND] card from your discard area to your hand.
Very interesting! This supports the notion that Megaforce will feature many more cards in this set that activate in the hand. This card also will work well with some other new cards from the set. We’ll get to that later.
Now, let’s take a look at another interesting card. Lightspeed Rescue reports in with a potent effect that rewards paying attention to the board.
One Hand Cost, 2 Damage, and a potent level 4 and 5 make this card very scary on it’s own. It’s ability, however, takes the cake here.
[PLAYED] Your opponent must exchange the card in their Battle Area with 1 card in their Training Area (If they have any).
This card is very strong in the mid game, when a player is starting to build their Training Area, and especially is brutal to an RPM deck, where the early game will see a quick build of the Training Area to get to Megazords before most decks will even consider it. Do you see a lot of low stat, Cost 0 or 1 cards in the training area? Snap them in, and take the easy win for a solid hit.
I’d like to, next, look at Time Force. For the sake of not making the article several pages long, I won’t post the pictures here, but they can all be found on the ACG Facebook.
Time Force specializes in deck manipulation.
Pink checks the top of your Opponent’s deck. If it’s a Villain, it’s discarded. It’s it’s not you can move it to the top or bottom of the deck.
Red checks the top of either player’s deck, and move it to top or bottom.
Green checks top of Opponent’s deck for a Megazord, and discards it if it is, or sends it to the top or bottom if it isn’t. Yellow does the same for Zords.
Blue checks the top of the Opponent’s deck for a Support, and does the same.
The Quantum Ranger is a little different. When he’s played, you can play a Quantasaurus Rex from the discards for 1 cost. This is very, VERY powerful, for obvious reasons.
Even scarier is what the Q-Rex does. During the Assist Step, he can exchange out for a Q-Rex Megazord from the Discard Area!
This kind of utility is unprecedented in the game, and offers decks that run him lots of utility for Toolboxing.
The Q-Rex, in and of itself, is potent. On a Win, the Opponent discards one card from hand, and one from Training Area. Then, they take an extra point of damage. While this damage doesn’t apply in the RPS mechanic, the Megazord, at the very least, does 5 Damage, and 2 discards.
Next, I’d like to draw attention to a very unique Ranger Card.
What, pray tell, is RPM Red doing behind this card?
Well, obviously, he’s providing another Symbol for this Ranger! His Dual Symbol provides a x2 Bonus when the card is being used to pay a cost from the Training Area, while the Shield prevents Bonus Damage when he loses. Note that Shield does NOT protect from Effect Damage, such as Samurai or Q-Rex Megazord.
Too much love for the Rangers? Okay. Have an awesome Villain card.
There is nothing wrong with this card other than the fact that I don’t own it yet. Great stats, reasonable cost, and a powerful effect. He offers Toolbox Utility to the Villain decks, which desperately needed it.
Keep a lookout here, ACG Fans. I know you want Dino Thunder covered, and you can bet your Morphers that breakdown is coming, and it’s coming soon.
For now, let me know your thoughts: How do you feel so far about this new set? What decks are you looking forward to building? And how with this very heavily Anti-Meta set affect the future of the game?
