At the closing of Toei’s space action series Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger, the company announced its next installment in the Space Squad series. Titled Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger vs. Space Squad, the film will feature the Kyurangers teaming up with Space Sheriff Gavan / Geki Jumonji and Space Sheriff Shaider / Shu Karasuma.
This announcement came via video on the Toei Video YouTube Channel hosted by the cast of Kyuranger.
As most fans may know, this is not the first time the Kyurangers have crossed paths with the newly-christened Space Squad, a collection of galactic saviors from across Toei’s vast canon of transforming heroes in television and movie productions through the years. In Episode 18 of Uchu Sentai Kyuranger, the team briefly was sucked into a universe alternate to their own, meeting Gavan and the heroes of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger. The episode served to promote the first Space Squad film, released shortly thereafter.
The new film will be written by Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger writer Nobuhiro Miro and directed by Koichi Sakamoto. Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger vs. Space Squad is a V-Cinema title labeled under the new V-Cinext project; it is a process to release V-Cinemas on home video and give them limited theatrical releases.
The official release for Uchuu Sentai Kyuranger vs. Space Squad on Blu-Ray and DVD is August 8, 2018 with its theatrical screenings set for June.
