Daft Science by Coins
Growing up West Coast and Broke, Hip Hop was a huge part of my upbringing. I was fortunate that my household claimed no coastal affiliation when it came to music, though, and in the same breath that Snoop’s latest hit was jamming out of our speakers, legendary Emcees The Beastie Boys were introduced to me through classics such as “No Sleep Til Brooklyn.”
Meanwhile, Daft Punk first crossed my CD Player with their classic jams “Around the World” and “Technologic.” Recently hitting mainstream success after well received collabs with Kanye West and a Top Ten hit worldwide with Pharrell Williams with “Get Lucky,” Daft Punk also is largely responsible for the also excellently charting soundtrack for Tron: Legacy.
As far as the album goes, you’ll be hard pressed to find a cleaner, playlist friendlier album. The songs are so well designed that a play start to finish is seamless, almost like it’s just one big mix. Coins was completely on point in his selection of source tracks for the project. The tracklist reads like a greatest hits for both bands, featuring all the previously mentioned tracks in some form (except “Get Lucky.”)
Be sure to support Coins by checking out the Bandcamp page. Surprisingly, according to Coins on Twitter, when the album released two years ago, it completely flopped. The music game is funny that way sometimes.
