Down But Not Out! The Texas Toku Taisen Will Make it Showy!

The first tokusatsu film festival celebrating the past, present and future of the henshin heroes and colossal kaiju

Sorry for all of the yelling but we at Mecha Gorilla have been hard at work making sure we get this event off of the ground for year one. We eventually want to make this film festival a competitive film festival by the people and for the people in tokusatsu. All of you as fans play an essential role in helping the growth of this awesome genre full of awesome transformation sequences, larger than life stories, and even more awesome special effects. The location of the event has changed to another Drafthouse location, Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes theater (1255 SW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78227). All of the specifics have been difficult to convey, and due to a few set backs we’ve had to trim this year’s version. However, much like the Senpuujin Hurrier, this makes us more effective. Let’s make it showy!

The first Texas Toku Taisen organized by Mecha Gorilla and presented by Alamo Drafthouse and Alamo City Comic Con, will take place at the Westlakes Alamo Drafthouse location (1255 SW Loop 410, San Antonio, TX 78227) on May 15, 2014. The Texas Toku Taisen is a film festival dedicated to showcasing the history and presence of the Japanese film genre tokusatsu here in the US. The festival will show 4 different movies before the premiere of Legendary Film’s release of Godzilla. The festival is primed to have a vendor’s table established for Heroes and Fantasies, a partner in organizing the event, a presentation from Monster Attack Team, as well as a live panel from Matt Frank of IDW’s Godzilla: Rulers of Earth. The festival will show Hentai Kamen, Kamen Rider: The First, The Guyver, and Gamera: Guardian of the Universe. Passes are on sale now at Mecha Gorilla’s website (http://www.mechagorilla.com/shop) and will be available for purchase at the Westlakes Drafthouse box office by Thursday, May 9th. Tickets for each movie being screened will be on sale separately for $10.

Not only are we working here in San Antonio by showing tokusatsu episodes every Tuesday at the Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes location, we’re looking to make the film festival a road show to other conventions such as San Japan and Alamo City Comic Con as well as other Drafthouse locations across the country.

We’ll definitely be making this showy for the godfather of tokusatsu: Godzilla!

Our newest ally in this fight make this event happen is Alamo City Comic Con, which we’re most excited about. Let’s make this event and many more to come huge for our community! We can’t thank you all enough for your support and interest, we look forward to give you guys more awesome content.
