Rose McIver to star in Lifetime Movie, “Petals on the Wind”

The Hollywoord Reporter has revealed recently that Rose McIver, who played Summer Landsdown in Power Rangers RPM, will be taking over the role of the lead character, Cathy Dollanganger, in Lifetime’s follow up to “Flowers in the Attic.”

While V.C. Andrews’ 1980 novel, Petals on the Wind, picks up immediately following the events of Flowers in the Attic, Lifetime’s adaptation of the story takes place about 10 years later, which created a need for a major recasting for many of the characters.

Taking place in 1971, Petals on the Wind tells the story of the Dollanganger siblings, now young adults, who are trying to move on in life after suffering their mother’s abuse, while battling lingering guilt and present tragedy. Cathy (McIver) ultimately concocts a scheme to take revenge on her mother.

In an interview at the Television Critics Association press tour in January, screenwriter Kayla Alpert talked about Petals on the Wind, calling it “a very juicy, compelling revenge drama.” Executive Producer Michele Weiss expressed hope that most of the major cast would return, saying at the time of interview, “It’s hard to say who’s available, but I know that they’re happy with their cast. I hope we get them again.”

The previous film, “Flowers in the Attic,” was a major hit for Lifetime. On Jan. 18, it attracted 6.1 million viewers, making it basic cable’s top-rated TV movie among adults 25-54 since November 2012.

McIver is also known for her roles on ABC’s “Once Upon a Time” as Tinker Bell and Showtime’s “Masters of Sex” as Vivian Scully, and she has appeared in feature “The Lovely Bones,” where she won Best NZ Actress from Visa Entertainment Screen Awards, as well as “Dangerous Ride.”

“Petals” is currently filming, and you can find more photos of McIver at this link.
