Keiji Inafune Kickstarts Mighty No.9

Megaman creator Keiji Inafune is developing a spiritual successor to the legendary Blue Bomber: Mighty No.9! Funded via Kickstarter, Mighty No.9 brings together many of Megaman’s veteran designers but the project needs YOUR help to make it into a reality!

Mighty No.9 is a retro style action packed side scroller where players take control of Beck, 9th in the line of powerful robots and the only one not to be infected when a mysterious computer virus causes robots all over the world to go berserk. Much like Megaman, Beck can take weapons and special abilities from his enemies but what sets Beck apart from the Blue Bomber is his ability to transform.

Beck’s body can transform and reconfigure itself and different shapes and objects. For example: you can morph ihs legs into tank dreads or turn his arms into a powerful magnet. Much like what Inafune tried to do with the canned Megeman Legends 3 fan input will carry a lot of weight in this project. Polls and surveys will determine what designs will make it into the final game and higher level backers will be able to contribute design ideas for the game.

Currently, Mighty No.9 is being developed on PC with a digital only release via Steam, but if the project goal stretches beyond the set goal they’ll bring the game to consoles and other operating systems and pledging 20$ is enough to get you a digital copy of the game. If all goes well, the Mighty. No 9 is expected to release in April 2015.
