Never seen Hurricanger? Â Well get ready for a primer. Â The fan favorite sentai trio are the focus of this week’s episode…but not the three ninja’s you’d expect at first! Â General Pain finally takes the stage as we kick off another grand delusion in the world of Akibaranger!
Akibaranger gets deeper and deeper into the Super Sentai fandom with every episode, and this week is a doozy. Â The show notes graciously posted on Over-Time really double your pleasure this week, and even the show seems to step back and say “Let’s explain this VERY CLEARLY” at times. Â But I digress! Â Let’s get to the breakdown.
General Pain and Malshina exist on opposite sides of the Delusion “divide” (I’m gonna call it). Â And it took me till this episode to realize that he’s never actually seen Malshina, only spoken to her through the Moya Moya Z-Cune. Â This makes their relationship far richer instantly, and in this episode General Pain learns more about the Akibarangers and the power of the Grand Delusion than ever before. Â His consistent energy is perfectly instep with the heroes, and his insanely powerful fanboy knowledge and fantasies are right from our own subconscious.
Now…I did have to take a moment to bring the whole plot of this episode down to a neat paragraph or two, but here goes…deep breath now…
General Pain creates an original character, Tentoraiger, with the intention of her joining forces with the Goraigers to create the first ever evil ninja sentai team Ninja Beetle Sentai Jakanja. The General really hated the fact that the Goraigers eventually turn good, so he created Tentoraiger to express his desire for an evil team to take the Hurricangers 3v3 in the ultimate ninja showdown of all time.
Unfortunately it seems Malshina had plans of her own and instead Tentoraiger ends up as Hadezkin, the 10th Dark Spear of the evil Space Ninja Group Jakanja (the Hurricangers main bad guy group!) Â She gets backed up by none other than Kabutoraiger and Kuwagaraiger, who get renames as well (Poseidom and Uranusdo, respectively) as the 8th and 9th Dark Spears.
This really pisses off the General, so Malshina just tells them to use their real names and go with his plan instead. Â Hence, new evil sentai is born!
This new team whips the Akibarangers so soundly it’s a no contest. Â And back in reality it seems Malshina’s attempt to be creative backfired in a huge way. Â By adding three more member to Jakanja, a group that’s named after the days of the week, the real world have gained three extra days as well! Â Now each month only has three weeks, which means less weekends per year for everyone! Â And on top of that, each day has a horrible stipulation attached to it!
General Pain doesn’t escape the effects of this issue at all, and gets chased down on Hadday for cosplaying! Â What follows is a pretty crucial series of events in the life of ole’General Pain, one that should be experienced first hand by you the viewer!
Some neat trivia though, courtesy of the show notes. Â The lead “agent” chasing down the offending cosplayers is none other than the suit actor who plays Akiba red! Â Apparently it’s traditional to use the suit actors as “faceless” extras from time to time. Â Nifty!
By the end of the episode, another sick looking weapon is introduced (though Akibared does not have to go super mode during this episode! Â First time since he’s gotten it he hasn’t!). Â The preview seems to betray the return of this week’s main villain, but it looks like the more General Pain learns the more dangerous he’s becoming! Â Where’s his apprentice? What’s his plan with Tentoraiger’s new redesign? Lots of new questions pop up this week.
Come on by next week for more love form Akihabara! Â Hope everyone had a great weekend, enjoyed that nice weather (in some places), and have a great one ahead! And as always, please check out our fantastic forums, where you can discuss this week’s episode!
