It is the futuristic year 2007.  Humanity has barely survived the nuclear war Vietnam 2.  The fate of the world is in your hands.  You are Sgt. Rex Power Colt, a Mark IV Cyber Commando and total badass.  Do you have what it takes to get the girl and save the world after the apocalypse has had an apocalypse?  Press START and hit the jump to find out!

What was first believed as an April Fools Joke, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is Ubisoft’s love letter to 80’s action films.  Everything you loved about those cheesy classics is here, from the music to the neon visuals! Still don’t believe me? Watch the trailer below.  No seriously, watch it!  I’ll wait.

I know and you’re right.  BAD….ASS!

Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is a downloadable standalone FPS (First Person Shooter), meaning you don’t have to own Far Cry 3 to play it, that has you kicking ass and taking names on an unknown island.  As with most FPS games you are dumped into a tutorial, but this tutorial will make your sides split with laughter and is well worth going through.  After the tutorial and the first mission are over, you are free to explore the island you are trapped on.  Don’t want to go right into the story?  That’s fine; you can liberate garrisons, go hunting, rescue hostages, or try and obtain all the collectables.

While a pretty standard as FPS’ go, Blood Dragon’s charm is in its presentation.  Everything here is lovingly crafted as if the game was made sometime in the mid to late 1980’s, complete with VHS style loading screens.  For those of you too young to remember VHS, ask your parents or an older sibling.  Yeah, technology was pretty funny back then.  The visuals and soundtrack are both stellar in this game, and the voice acting by 80’s action star Michael Biehn is top notch! The controls are what you would expect from a FPS and are super responsive.  Everything comes together in a great stylized package that is fun to play.

Seriously, if you love FPS games, if you loved Far Cry 3, if you LOVE 80’s action movies, do yourself a HUGE favor and treat yourself to this game!  I cannot recommend it enough.
Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is available for download on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Microsoft Windows for about $15.
