The History of Super Sentai & Power Rangers – Part I: SHOTARO ISHINOMORI

[HJU Forum Discussion]

Power Rangers, for 20 years this live action television series has become a staple in American entertainment, merchandising, and pop culture. The constant presence is something that has transformed it into an icon that anyone young or old can recognize. But the true origin of the Power Rangers doesn’t begin here, it begins in Japan with the Super Sentai series.

In this first part of our retrospective/documentary series we begin with the legendary Shotaro Ishinomori, one the Godfathers of Japanese Manga and Henshin hero shows. We explore some of his early and most influential work that would inspire the Super Sentai series, or as we would come to know it here in America… “Power Rangers”

As fans we want to tell the untold story of this phenomenon to fans.
