Ghost In The Shell: Arise [Update]

The press conference is over and new details have emerged on the new series… But is it a series or something more? You’ll just have to click the more button to find out.

The press conference has released that Arise is not a TV series but a four part 50 minute OVA series similar to how the Gundam: Unicorn franchise is being handled.  The first episode is set to debut later this year with the title, “Ghost Pain”.  The first part will run in Japan for two weeks in theaters starting on Saturday, June 22. There will be advance Blu-ray Disc copies with a bundled scenario book available at participating theaters. Now it is still unsure if these are set in the movie time line or the TV series time line. However based on the video and the character designs for some of characters this seems to be a prequel to the movie time line, but that has yet to be determined…or relevant as it could be counted for both.  So it looks like this is how Section 9 will be formed, while Motoko works for the armies 501st secret division.

Right now it looks like the only person returning to their role is Maaya Sakamoto who is voicing the Major. Sakamoto has voiced the versions of Young Major in both movie and TV series. While other actors do have credits from the various renditions of characters in the Ghost in the Shell franchise strangely none of them are for main characters, so it’s a whole new cast.
