CAPTAIN POWER AND THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE wass without a doubt one of the most remarkable shows on television in the 1980’s. The last year has seen a bit of a resurgence in popularity with DVD sets and soundtracks. As of today, it’s finally come to a head with news of the new project, PHOENIX RISING! Info on this and more after the jump!
In 1987, a show came on American television that was ahead of its time. Created as a toy tie-in, it would go on to be remembered as one of the most groundbreaking works of TV science fiction. The name of the show: CAPTAIN POWER AND THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE.
Set in a war-ransacked Earth of the distant future, the show pitted our titular hero against the forces of Lord Dread and his machine empire. Writers from shows like BEAST WARS, BABYLON 5, and JEM were involved, it was the first TV show to incorporate fully computer generated characters, there was non-stop action, and damn if it didn’t have some of the coolest toys–ships and figures that you could actually fight the bad guys on screen with…and they could shoot back. It was one of the best things to come out of the 80’s, and like all the other good things for kids, it was cancelled after one season.
Last year saw the release of a complete Captain Power DVD Box Set, and a few weeks ago we got a remastered soundtrack. But all the time, fans found themselves asking one question: “Is Captain Power coming back?” The answer, valiant readers, just came in today via AICN!
Goddard Film Group’s producing team of Gary Goddard, Roger Lay Jr and Eric Carnagey are working with former Paramount Television Senior Executive Jeffrey Hayes,  who was responsible for such television hits as STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION, FAMILY TIES, and CHEERS, to bring back Goddard’s Sci-fi Cult classic CAPTAIN POWER AND THE SOLDIERS OF THE FUTURE in the form of a weekly one-hour drama series titled PHOENIX RISING.
They have enlisted writers/producers Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens to develop this next evolution of the series. Recent television credits for the Reeves-Stevens include creating the new science-fiction drama series PRIMEVAL: NEW WORLD, the North American spin-off of the UK hit PRIMEVAL. They also served as writers/producers on STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE for Paramount and RACE TO MARS for Discovery.
More details will be revealed soon…
For more info, check out this promo video here. Meanwhile, if all of this has got you foaming at the mouth with excitement already, you can buy the Captain Power set on Amazon right now. I cannot recommend this series highly enough and my anticipation for PHOENIX RISING is through the roof! What do you guys think? Let us know in the comments!

The idea of Captain Power coming back is cool to me but I'm very skeptical about what modern tv creators would do with it especially after what Battlestar Galactica got turned into. "Writers and Producers of Star Trek Enterprise" doesn't fill me with confidence either.
You're worried about what modern TV creators will do it, but you don't think that it's Enterprise people? I loved how Enterprise worked to make everything about The Original Series make sense, unlike what the new movies are doing.
"Writers and Producers of Star Trek: Enterprise" wouldn't inspire me with confidence, either, since that would imply Rick Berman and Brannon Braga, who effectively managed to run Trek into the ground during their tenure...
...except it isn't - it's Judith and Gar[field] Reeves-Stevens, who wrote some of the few decent (i.e. Season 4) episodes of Enterprise, as well as many, many well-received Trek spin-off novels. If they're involved with the writing of this reboot, I expect it'll be a good mix of solid storytelling and an authentically 'classic TV sci-fi' feel. Colour me 'cautiously optimistic' on this one...
The Original Captain Power, they're forgetting to mention, was largely written and masterminded by Babylon 5's J. Michael Strazcynski. He was the reason the show was worth watching, and he's quite absent from the talent behind this "reboot".
Not out there to new customers who buy a NOW TV Field Motion pictures pack
a companion pack which includes a Sky Movies Move or with another
provide.
I love the number of movies you could have and the fact I
can watch movies that are enjoying 'now' on Sky.
