Not long ago, Yoshizawa Ryo was asked about how he felt about his character, Ryusei Sakuta who transforms into Kamen Rider Meteor, in the 135th issue of Uchusen.

Here’s what he said.

“When I first heard from the producer Tsukada that my role would be acting with two different sides, I started comparing him to Death Note’s Light Yagami. They are both more cheerful and bright on the surface, but completely different on the inside. So I decided to re-read Death Note and perhaps apply some of that on the character Ryusei Sakuta. But no matter how I looked at it, acting with two sides seemed really hard.
I started reading the scripts for episode 17 and 18, when I finished I immediately continued with 19 and 20. I noticed that Ryusei’s behavior had changed a little. At first I felt like he seemed like a good guy on the surface, but a bad guy on the inside. But after reading the script for 19 and 20, he seemed like a completely normal good guy. He became a good guy so unexpectedly, but after that I think he’ll gradually come to learn to know the rest of the group.

When I was reading the script, I saw a line saying “Hoowaatchaaa!“, I instantly started think “Uh…” But as I got to the recording studio, I noticed how it was actually really fun to do these noises. Right now, I’m making these sounds in high spirits. I really want to make more variations to his fighting sounds too. I’d be so happy to see children try and imitate me. I’ve been watching Bruce Lee movies so much as a reference to get this right. I feel like I’ll won’t be as cool as him but I’ll try my best. I have to say Enter the Dragon had the best fight scenes.

I’m still not used to the ADR dubbing, so I’m still having trouble with it. I keep thinking, “Oh, I want it to sound like this and that” but it never ends up how I imagine it. For example, the first “Hoowaatchaaa” I did was really hard. It was like I couldn’t match the sound together with the punch and how the enemy received the punch from Meteor. But the finished product worked well.

The moment Ryusei transforms into Meteor, he gets real noisy. It’s like I have to raise my voice. But I’m still going to give my best in the ADR studio!”
