We reported on the newly announced Unofficial Force Akihabara Rangers that it’s a brand new TV show. Well, it might not be. It’s also nothing you probably think it is.
After discussing with some sources, the news doesn’t actually state that the TV series is live action or anime. It does mention that it’s a spoof parody thing for adult otaku to enjoy, not kids. Bare in mind that adult otaku in Japan are very different to what westernised versions of otakus are perceived. It won’t have anything to do with Go-Busters or anything else Super Sentai. BS ASAHI and TOKYO MX will be airing it in April, for some reason it’ll be on two channels. Something will air, it’s just not clear what is yet.
Akihibara in Tokyo is an otakus heaven. It’s full of shops filled with everything you could ever hope to fill your geek fantasies and arcades filled to the brim with wide ranging gaming. Bandai Tamashi regularly runs events in Akihabara geared towards adult otaku to buy rare and exclusive (and expensive)toys and models of girls from shows. Those kind of models. It’s great way to cash in for Bandai and it’s done like this for shows like Gundam, Pretty Cure and countless more. This is most likely what Akibaranger is made for.
Going by the evidence we have:
The team will consist of two women(okay, one could be an feminine man), we’ve never had in a Sentai team before, even then I’m inclined to believe that they are all women. The men outweigh the women in shows because the series is primarily successful with Japanese boys over girls. In this case, it’s aimed at adult otaku so we could be looking at one cool heroic male and two perfectly bodied girls, perfect for selling expensive figures en mass.
Hopefully we’ll get some more real news, but for now, don’t get your hopes up.
[Updated] A trailer for the series was shown at a talk show & concert for the Rider x Sentai movie yesterday. No more info at this time.

So, it's a Sentai version of Akihabara@Deep? Pretty much exactly what I thought it was from the first press release. Could be a lot of fun.
