Gareth Edwards, British film director and writer of indie sci-fi movie Monsters, has been confirmed as the director of the next American remake of Godzilla, HollywoodReporter.com reports.
The picture is a joint production of Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros, who are co-producing, co-financing and co-distributing. Legendary bought the rights from Toho in March 2010 for an undisclosed amount and were reported as seeking out Edwards after being impressed with his low-budgeted movie released earlier this year.
David Callaham, who was writing the script (writer of The Expendables, Tell-Tale and Doom) is reportedly now not attached to the project.
The movie is currently confirmed for a 2012 release date.
