Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Toy Review: Advent Cycle & Wing Knight!

Howdy! As I’ve already told some of you, I won a figure of Kamen Rider Wing Knight in a contest that the good folks of the ‘Slice of SciFi’ podcast were holding, and I’ve decided to show you guys what we’re in for when these hit the shelves in the next month or two.

The packaging looks pretty cool, and can even help serve as a study aid if you’re taking a high school language class. 🙂

Like with a good amount of the merchandise for his Ryuki counterpart, KR Knight, the guys at Bandai decided to use more blue for the costume than black (like in the show), which continues to confuse me to no end.

The head, on the other hand, is completely show-accurate. The neck can turn 360 degrees to the side, but can’t look up. The neck is also a little loose, and I don’t know if this goes for the entire line or just the figure I got.

His arms can swing all the way around. The wrists can also turn completely around. The arms nicely detailed, but it bothers me that they didn’t give him any elbow articulation. None, at all.

The only paint details on the sword/Darkvisor are on the insignia, but the sculpt detailing isn’t bad. Same goes for the V-buckle. One thing that shocked me about the articulation at the waist, considering how the rest of the figure turned out, is that the legs can extend outward instead of just forward and back.

There’s articulation in the knees, but that leaves some ugly-looking exposed screws.

Also, I can already tell that this line of figures is gonna get a fair amount of unintentional schtick for putting the ‘Made in China’ sign and the serial number on the underside.

Here’s a picture I took of Wing Knight with XMO: Wolverine Deadpool in hopes of giving you guys a good idea of how tall he is (and in hopes that someone here will get inspired to write some cheesy fanfiction).

All of these figures are going to be coming with a different Advent Card that you’ll be able to store in the DX V-buckle belt and use in the DX Dragvisor to unlock sounds and all that good stuff. Obviously, Wing Knight’s getting ‘Nasty Vent’, so hide the kids!

Although this line is a far cry from the quality of any of the figures that Ryuki got in Japan, they’re still the cheapest Rider figures you’re ever going to find, and they’re fun to mess around with. This is also probably the only Rider line that will be in scale with G.I. Joe and Star Wars figures, so if you wanna make Torque have a shootout against Destro or have Dragon Knight ride in the cockpit of an AT-AT, then be my guest. Also, if you’re gonna pick up the Dragvisor (if you’re still reading this, then I don’t doubt for a second that you will), the cards that come with the figures will make you the all-powerful Rider you’ve always dreamed about being (in your imagination, of course).

To end this review, here are some photos of Wing Knight in action that I took:

HAVE FUN, AND KEEP ON ROCKIN’! m/ ^__^m/

  • I'm planning to get my hands on Dragon Knight or even Strike but from what I saw, it's only good for display purposes. How many articulations do it have? I'm more an articulation guy than a display guy. I more likely buy articulated figures.

  • I got my Dragon Knight action figure of the same line. I don't understand the trend in action figures to move to the 4-inch size of traditional GI Joe/Star Wars territory. Plastic prices? I personally prefer the 5-6-inch size.

  • I do agree with you. Larger figures are a lot better than these ones. I do prefer figures 13 cm tall, like Souchaku Henshin or Figuarts series. They have more articulation but only double the price of this figure.

  • these are very good figures but unfortunately are pretty stinky in comparison to the motion revive series made by bandai the motion revive series feature 3 3/4" highly articulated figures from several popular kamen rider story arcs. For what you would pay for one series of motion revive figures (they come in sets of 6/7) you could buy the whole dragon knight line. Its still great to hit a store and be able to get some Kamen Rider love!
