FRIDAY ACE: “Epic Rickroll” Edition – Week of 2/10/08

This was the scene outside of multiple Scientology branches this past Sunday as part of a mass 4chan Scientology raid protest. The reason this wins the honor of having this week’s Friday ACE named after it. Because of the massive Rick Roll that was the London protest group…

From This Entry Here:

One guy in a full-on V outfit made an announcement in a very dull and proper fashion that none of us could hear properly. We were busy heckling him (anonymous has no problem with criticising anonymous), when he reaches the end of his speech and presses play on a boombox…

The crowd went fucking wild.

500 people rick-rolling the UK Scientology head office. It was at this point I saw the corners of the cops’ mouths twitch into smiles as they realised it was ok: we were from the internets.

Thank you Anonymous for making my week. What? You were expecting a Valentine’s Day theme? Too bad. And now, your Friday ACE.

-First off, did you buy the new m-flo album that came out this week? Did you love that new single featuring the likes of LISA and Emyli? You want to get that as a single? Well tough luck, they only made one copy….

On Thursday, m-flo announced that “love comes and goes” will be released as a special single – only one copy is being made. Those who purchase the best album can enter a lottery for the chance to buy the one-of-a-kind single. The CD will cost 1,050 yen, but it will come with the two life-sized busts of Verbal and Taku that appear on the jacket of the album. Made from polyester resin, the busts are worth an estimated total of 2 million yen.

Expect this thing to hit eBay shortly afterwards….

Plamoo showed us this week why Warsman from Kinnikuman is so awesome.

….I still can’t stand SkyGirls

Oh fine, here’s Jumping Onto White Base. AAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

But I’m allowed to post this:

-One of the first entries I made on J-ACE was about few of the crazy products that were coming out to celebrate the anniversary for Evangelion. With the remaining Rebuild of Evangelion movies coming out this year, I believe the likes of Lilith dinner plates have met their match; Maid Rei and Maid Asuka.

Here, have some Impact Curry in the meantime…

A lot of people I know are gonna be pissed about this one: Square’s cracking down on FFVII replica sword vendors.

— SQUARE ENIX CO., LTD., a Tokyo-based leading digital entertainment content company (Square Enix), announced today that it had filed a federal lawsuit in the Central District of California against alleged infringers of Square Enix’s intellectual property. The lawsuit names at least four wholesalers of unlicensed sword replicas and their principals, which have willfully infringed four videogames and one CG-animated film in Square Enix’s FINAL FANTASY(R) franchise. Additional defendants may be added to this lawsuit….

This isn’t as drastic as say that Korean music video that ripped off of FFVII:AC but it makes enough sense. Maybe Square Enix wants to get into the sword replica game and release officially licensed stuff? Who knows.

What does this mean for me in the long run? Less people like this guy (appearing in the linked video at the 3:22 mark) at cons…

Sorry, you’re not cool at all.

-So okay, new Golgo 13 TV series, new Cobra TV series and OVA…..What’s next?

That’s right folks, we’re getting a 40th anniversary OVA by the name of Lupin III: GREEN VS RED. Just as the title states, we’re getting something only the most insane of fanfic writers has ever thought of: A confrontation between Lupin’s Red and Green Jacket incarnations.

Now I know the last time we got an anniversary themed OVA, we got Return of Pycal *shudder* but hey, we’ve got Miya Shigeyuki, the director who did 2005’s TV Special Angel Tactics at the helm, maybe we’ll get something to make up for it at long last. We’re just going to have to wait and see when the DVD hits in April.

-Shoko Nakagawa announced that she’s putting out an original album next month. The kicker, she said to all of her fans that showed up to the event where she made the announcement that if her album hits number 1, she’ll run naked through Nakano Broadway.

I smell a platinum.

Eat your heart out IHasACheeseburger.com, an Asian horror/extreme cinema image macro community exists!

-And last but not least, proof that once again, Pachinko games have the greatest ads known to man. Example, these two rather kickarse comedy sketches to promote Pachinko Gundam II..

TANGENT OF THE WEEK:
I figure, considering how I tend to venture off into uncovered territory on occasion, the tangents deserve their own little special space. Especially this one: An example of why you should never and I mean NEVER attempt to outschool Wil Wheaton in Trekbabble.

Honorable Mention: It’s the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s album Thriller and nobody bothered to tell me that they did a special re-release? Punks.

And now, your newsbits and interesting links.
You’ve Got To Fight! For Your Right! To..Not Have Guitar Hero On Open Mic Night? (Kotaku)

That’s it for Friday ACE. And now, what a broken heart looked like in ancient China.
