This has been one of those weeks where you just want people to shut up. No I’m not being emo, I’m dead serious here. This is the week where people just need to stop talking, whether they be higher ups in the anime industry , or people who need to stop trying to sound elitist in the face of something cool.
So, as an attempt to try and restrain myself from going on Halo 3 multiplayer and going on a KILLING SPREE(!!!!), here’s this week’s installment of Friday ACE.
–Remember Zaido? Well apparently fans in the Philippines really don’t like it either:
…They apparently like World of Warcraft though.
–Twitch reports that a remake of Japanese “Women-In-Prison” Film classic, Female Convict 701 Scorpion is in the works.
Entitled Sasori, this remake is an attempt at a series reboot and it looks rather promising. Even more so with the fact that it’s by Hong Kong’s Sameway Pictures, the same studio that brought you Dog Bite Dog. No word yet on release date and the trailer is only available to film buyers only. You can however check out stills for the flick at Twitch.
Though the new leading lady, played by Miki Mizuno, looks both attractive and deadly, I still hold a torch for Meiko Kaji’s portrayal of the lead heroine. Wonder what she’s up to these days?
Now if Tarantino can get her to appear in Kill Bill: Vol. 3, priceless.
–The trailer for the Wachowski Bros. live action Speed Racer movie hit the net over the weekend:
I’m scared. I’m scared witless. Why? Because…it actually looks….good. Going to resist saying anything positive or negative until I see it for myself. Least I get to look forward to Rain finally making his stateside debut with this movie after getting shivved by the Virginia Tech shooting.
–Korean media group Fantom was taken to court by Square Enix recently, namely because of a recent music video for pop star, Ivy. Fantom ended up being found guilty and ended up being fined over 22 million won (just over $29,000 USD) with a civil suit over the creators of said music videos still pending. I can’t imagine why though…
Yeah that’d explain it.
According to the director: “It’s a parody! Honest! I tried to call Square Enix but I couldn’t find their contact info!!” Right. I’d give this a free pass if the song didn’t make me want to listen to a cover of that Oshiri Bug song by Kevin Ferderline.
Check out this side by side video to further add to the hilarity.
–On a happier note, the results are in. Behold the new face of Britain according to a Telegraph.co.uk poll:
RAW! RAW! GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!
–Viz announced that they snagged the license to Maiko Haaaan!!
From ICv2:
Maiko Haaan!!! (literally “Miss Maiko” — “haaan” is the honorific “san” in the Kyoto dialect) stars comedian Sadao Abe (whose frenetic acting and bowl haircut are occasionally reminiscent of Moe of The Three Stooges) as the salaryman who dumps his office worker girlfriend (who eventually apprentices as a Geisha in order to win him back) and moves to Kyoto to pursue his dream of playing a “strip baseball” drinking game with a real Geisha.
….I’m a sucker for these kinds of ridiculous movies folks. Consider this DVD mine the moment it comes out.
–It’s finally happened folks. The Western influences in the Japanese melting pot have given birth to another spawn of awesomeness: Metal Enka.
And for an encore tonight, ladies and gentlemen: Tokyo Brass Style and their amazing rendition of Makafushigi Adventure from Dragonball
–Marvel and Del Rey have announced that they’re releasing two manga based off of X-Men. Here’s a synopsis for one of them:
It’s the X-Men as you’ve never seen them before, with the storyline fashioned as a private school shôjo comedy. As the only girl in the all-boys School for Gifted Youngsters, Kitty Pryde, a mutant with phasing abilities, is torn between the popular Hellfire Club, led by flame-throwing mutant Pyro–and the school misfits, whom she eventually bands together as the X-Men.
Somewhere, a bunch of Wolverine/Gambit fangirls just pumped their fists into the air.
–This appears the greatest invention known to man..or rather this is the manliest invention ever created: The Fist of the North Star Bottle Opener.
Just insert a bottle of your choosing and pop the lid with it to hear a manly battlecry. Just check out this demo of it using a pair of scissors:
DISCLAIMER: Warning! Product may cause beverages to explode. Keep out of reach of Children.
-And finally, are you in Japan and you ever wanted to be a member of acting troupe D-BOYS? You may be in luck, Watanabe Entertainment is holding the next audition…on YouTube.
…Waiting for an American fangirl to try and enter this and get all pissy because he wasn’t chosen while playing the “ITZ CUZ IMA FOREIGNER!!” card.
Oh and speaking of fangirls, behold the greatest masterpiece of our time:
All Nippon Air Lines is a unique airline company. All of its employees are beautiful gay men. On top of that, relationships between employees, or even between passengers and employees, are highly encouraged! This is of course the premise for many hilarious situations and strange adventures both for them and for their passengers.
…Suddenly Soul Plane doesn’t seem as bad. No wait, never mind. It’s just as bad.
“At least Soul Plane was just a dream in the end….er, I read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia. “
–Daryl Surat, Anime World Order
