Power Rangers Super Legends (DS) Review

So here it is, 15 years in the making, Power Rangers: Super Legends for the Nintendo DS. These kind of licenses turned games never generally result in any worthwhile and sometimes something even playable. Prepare to be suprised, it’s not half bad.

The plot starts off with Time Force Blue Ranger chasing after an escaped monster in the year 3000. He runs into Omega Ranger who has jumped to the future to help, only to fall into the voids of time and end up in the lengendary Hall of Legends, a collection place of all Power Rangers power from across time. Omega Ranger must from here go to the different timelines and help out each group to stop Emperor Grumm from suceeding in his grand plan.

Now, the gameplay. It’s nice to be able to play so many different characters at different times, but unforunately they all have the same moves, but with slightly different animations. As you progress you can unlock new abilities and make your other previous ones stronger, which helps get over the samey kind of play that can occur. Some of the special moves can be quite entertaining, such as calling out Green Samuari Ranger to attack everyone on the screen for you or pressing the right buttons to perform your Rangers pose(and colourful explosion behind) which gives you a boast of energy for some time. Double jump is a great to tool to use when you go back and visit worlds you already completed to obtain some side-story crystals that you originally could not. The enemies do somewhat vary depending which timeline you are, but some crossover, which is mianly putties. The Zord battles can be interesting, but are mainly just dodge and fire lasers. You do get to fly around in jets in a very nostalgic old school arcade game kind of way. There’s also a co-op mode, but I haven’t been able to play that yet.

Judgement Time… It’s not great, but it’s so much better than I thought it would be. I’m still playing it after about 5-6 hours play and I’m quite sure I’m about a third of the way through if that.

Overall 6/10
