HJU Toy Review: Kamen Rider Kabuto Zector

by Rider Faiz

So you’ve been perfect from birth, you make a big mouth watering breakfast for your little sister every morning, and your town is plagued by worms. What else is a total badass going to do? Steal a whiny-boy’s Zector and Henshin into Kamen Rider Kabuto of course!!

First we have the belt (minus the straps which I left in the box…cause let’s face it…it doesn’t fit me anyway ).

The buckle itself isn’t too much to look at, but does have some nice detailing and paint applications. Which lets face it, didn’t really need to be there, since most people are going to have it covered up w/ the Zector. But it’s in the show and Bandai was cool enough to paint it!

But the belt alone is pretty damn boring…now onto the FUN part!
The Zector!

In the pic above you can see 3 buttons (numbered ‘1’ ‘2’ & ‘3’) where the feet are. After turning the power switch on (and hearing a ‘powering up’ noise w/ a light), these buttons can now be used.

Pushing any of the buttons will make a flapping wings sound (like the Zector is flying), pushing another button (or the same button again) and the Zector will say “Here I Am”, and pushing it a 3rd time you’ll hear “Danger!”

The back (wings) of the Zector can also be opened manually for pretend flight…

Putting the Zector onto the buckle…

And you’ll be treated to lights & sounds (same as the show) and the Zector saying “Henshin”.
And unlike other henshin toys, the Zector does not beep every 5 seconds to remind you it’s on…it will wait until you do something w/ it.

Pressing the 3 buttons now, will make, what I describe, as a hitting type noise 3 times with lights on the front.

But now what if this current form is just too damn slow to fight! Well fear not my friend and just CAST OFF! your extra bulk!
By moving the horn one click…

The Zector will make a ‘Powering Up’ sound w/ lights going off and will stay that way until you move the horn another click…

At which point the front end will slide open and you’ll hear “CAST OFF!”, a bunch of changing sounds and lights, and then “Change Beetle”.

Okay, so now you’re super light weight…now what? Well you really only have 2 choices…either preform your Rider Kick…or put your bulk back on. Unfortunatly the belt does not have, nor say, “Clock Up” or “Clock Out”

For the Rider Kick though, we’re once again pressing the buttons on the top of the belt. Pressing each button you’ll hear “ONE”, “TWO”, “THREE” with corrisponding lights. Slide the open end to the closed position (and hear a clicking sound)…

Move the horn back to the original position (another clicking sound)
And then back to the ‘cast off’ possition and you’ll now hear sounds w/ lights, then “RIDER KICK”.

Also by just sliding the end part, w/o pressing the buttons, and putting the horn back to the ‘cast off’ position, you’ll hear a clicking sound, a powering down type sound and then “PUT ON”.

All in all a VERY cool toy w/ TONS of lights & sounds.
My only dissapointment is the lack of “Clock Up” & Clock Out”. That would have been nice as well. Cause when I’m playing w/ my belt now, I just have to speak it myself…and people give me weird looks right before I start to move VERY quickly.
